Scholarship/Other Opportunities for High School Juniors
(Check the year to be sure the date is current.)
Alexander Hamilton - $500 Cash Scholarship and Leadership training in Seattle and Guatemala - leadership and service activities required.
Discover Card Scholarship - apply online or print an application. The deadline is usually in January.
High School Aerospace Scholars - An interactive, online learning experience - complete Web-based lessons during the school year and travel to NASA for a six-day summer experience. Earn a science elective toward graduation. Apply online or contact NASA at 281-483-4112. The deadline is usually in November.
PSAT/NMSQT Test - The PSAT test is given every year primarily to Juniors to given them an opportunity to take an SAT type test and compare their readiness for college with other 11th grade students across the nation. It is also the test used to compete for the National Merit Scholarships. The PSAT is given at Chisum High School in October every year. A fee may be required. A limited number of spaces are available so students are encouraged to sign up with the counselor in September if interested.
RYLA Camp - The Rotary Club sponsors a leadership camp for Juniors each year in the fall. 4 males and 4 females from the junior class are nominated by the staff of Chisum High School. The nominees then complete an interview process and the Rotary Club makes the final selection. The camp is very interactive and allows students to participate in activities with students from other schools. Students should let their teachers know if they are interested in being nominated for RYLA.
